Meet Your Officers |
Lion Bill Sour, our LITPC First Vice President, joined the Lions in October of 1976 and has enjoyed perfect attendance since that date. He has held all of the offices in the Northglenn Lions Club, including three terms as the President of that organization. He claims they made him president until he finally got it right. When the Northglenn Club folded recently, Lion Bill joined the Adams Centennial Lions Club. He has been a Zone Chairman on two different occasions and has served his District as a District Chairman for 11 different District Governors. Among the honors and awards that Lion Bill has received are 27 Appreciation Awards from the Presidents of his home Club, and 13 District Governor Appreciation Awards. In addition, he has been honored with a Presidential Appreciation Award from then International President James Coffey. He is extremely proud of his service as a Regional Coordinator within MD 6, Colorado, for Campaign Sight First I, raising over $200,000.00. Lion Bill has served on the Host Committee for two LCI Conventions held in Denver, and has held committee chair positions on four Multiple District 6 conventions. Lion Bill first became involved in pin trading during the 1977 MD 6, Colorado, State Convention, and was so "hooked", he joined the LITPC the following year. However, like other young father's with loads of family responsibilities, he quickly found that pin trading was a little rich for his blood and he proceeded to sell off his modest collection in 1988. After doing this, he suddenly discovered that although he might have saved a few dollars, he suffered greatly from the resultant loss of the close contacts with his pin trading buddies. He found that, as most of us have, the friendships that one gains in this hobby are far more important than any little pin that one might pick up. Consequently, he rapidly rejoined our ranks and was "hooked" again. He remembers an incident that when the late Dr. O. J. Ratcliff, who was our Nominations Chair for a number of years, approached him and asked if he would like to be considered for a Director position on the LITPC Board. Lion Bill responded "YES" so fast that "Doc" Ratcliff was greatly impressed with this type of enthusiasm and was convinced that this young man could have a future in the LITPC as a leader. You see, Lion Dr. "Doc" Ratcliff was not only involved in the nominations process, he was also one of our founding members and a past president who was concerned with discovering the talent that we would need for positions of leadership. Lion Bill Sour has proven over the years that he does have what it takes to be a leader in our pin trading community. He was one of the founding members of the Colorado Pin Trading Club and has served on the LITPC Board of Directors as a six-time Secretary and as our Treasurer for four years. He was elected as our Third Vice President in Denver in 2003, and the good Lord willing, he will succeed to the Presidency in 2009. Lion Bill has been married to Judy for over 29 years and they are the proud parents of a son (Billy) and a daughter (Shannon). Judy is not a pin trader but she will tell you without hesitation that she enjoys being around the many pin trading friends that Bill has made over the years. Bill probably sums up his feelings about as well as one might expect when he says that the "friendships that I have developed in this organization mean so much to me that I think of many of them as family," He goes on to say that "being a member of the LITPC has given me the opportunity to travel to so many great places, and I honestly consider that the pins have become secondary to everything else that I've derived from being a member."
