Lion "Jim" Schiebel, PCC, LITPC Past President, grew up on a dairy farm in central New York state. After receiving a bachelor and masters of professional studies degrees from Cornell University, he spent seven years teaching vocational agriculture and then twenty six years teaching middle school science at Hilton Central School. He was named "Outstanding Young Teacher" by ATANY, the state vocational agricultural teachers' association. Lion Jim continues his involvement in the educational process today by scoring new teacher certification exams for the State of New York.

PCC "Jim" joined the Hilton Lions Club as a charter member and has maintained 40 years of perfect attendance. He was the first pin trading chairman and the first diabetes committee chairman in his district, and received the first "Outstanding Reporter" recognition given by his district. He has chaired the policy manual committee and has served on the Leadership committee in the district.

During the 1985-86 Lions year, he was a 100% District Governor and then served Multiple District 20 as the Council Chairman. At the Multiple District level, he served as Chairman of the USA-Canada Lions Leadership Forum Committee, the International Convention Committee, and the Constitution and By Laws Committee. He is currently the President of the MD 20 Organization of Past District Governors and Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Empire State Speech and Hearing Clinic, one of two State projects in New York.

Lion "Jim" was a charter member of the Pin Traders Club of New York and Bermuda. He wrote the policy manual for the organization and is currently the Editor of the club bulletin. He was a presenter at the USA-Canada Leadership Forum in Niagara Falls on "Pins and Banners". He has been the Guiding Lion for the State University New York at Brockport Lions Club since the club was formed back in 2000.

After retiring from teaching, Lion "Jim" joined the Walker Volunteer Fire Department and has maintained the highest service points during two years. He was named the Chief's Award once and "Outstanding Fireman" twice.

He was awarded the Robert J. Uplinger Distinguished Service Award, the Melvin Jones Fellow, an International President's Certificate of Appreciation, an International President's Commendation, two International President's Awards, and a Key of Nations for sponsoring 100 new Lions Club members. Lion "Jim" is now retired and lives in Hamlin, New York with his wife, Donna. He has recently built a huge barn on his property to house the thousands upon thousands of pins that he has accumulated over the years of active pin trading. If you are ever in his area and would like to see what some have described as a virtual museum of pins, you might want to contact him and see if you can arrange for a visit.
