Lion Lana McCaulley of Pennsylvania, our Secretary, began her exposure to Lionism as a young girl when her dad, then a member of the Mechanicsburg Lions Club, had her play a piano duet for their Lions Christmas Party. The Christmas party was just one of the family functions that she participated in while growing up. The club also had a pancake breakfast and 50/50 bingo on Jubilee day to raise funds and she was always there. Lana, her husband, Tim, and her father are still members of the Mechanicsburg Club.

Before ladies joined local clubs, Lana was a member of the Mechanicsburg "Dandelions", who supported Lions and their functions. Lana attended a number of State conventions and it was in 1982 that Lana, Tim, and their daughter, Erica, made their first trip to a Lions Clubs International Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. One of her memories is that she was the "little fish in the big pond" of some heavy duty pin traders. All pins could be carried by one person and the trading table was a "hotel towel" placed on the concrete floor.

It was around this time that Lana became involved with "hospitality" when Lion Bill Smith of Virginia came to her home to work with a "gang" of very enthusiastic Lions who created the Pennsylvania Pin Traders Club (PTCP). She attended the first Pennsylvania pin swap at a park in Blandon, PA. and has been to numerous swaps and conventions since then.

Lana has served as the Hospitality Chairperson for PTCP since the position was created. She has provided hospitality even long distance. The PTCP hosted a room at Noah's Ark in St. Louis, Indianapolis, Detroit, Ocean City (she's often reminded this is the one event that was almost missed) and Chicago. The family van has carried a lot of supplies and food to numerous locations and enjoyed it all. Just a note about that Ocean City "visit". The truth be known, Lana and Tim had the wrong date on their calendar and didn't find out their error until the last moment. We hasten to add that those two did manage to get the "goodies" for their hospitality room delivered to Ocean City on time.

Lana was honored by the PTCV, which presented her with a Melvin Jones Fellow for the work she has done for the club. Pin trading is a great hobby that has expanded to more than expected. It's provided her family with the opportunity to travel and meet people who have become friends for life. Of course Lana has not done all of the previous trips and events without help from her husband Tim and sometimes from their daughter Erica. The family has worked as a team and have had a great time and have been provided with wonderful memories.

Lana has worked as a Medical Malpractice Underwriter for almost 25 years. She is currently the Director of Underwriting for Professional Casualty Association in King of Prussia, PA
