Loyal Order of Lions PinLoyal Order of Lions

According to "The Lion", a book that was issued by Lions Clubs International several years ago, our founder, Melvin Jones, failed twice in his efforts to organize what we now know as Lions Clubs International. One of these attempts was an organization called the "Loyal Order of Lions", which lasted only for a short period of time. During that period, a lapel pin was designed and issued for the members.
One of these individuals was a gentleman who later became the Charter Secretary of the Baker City, Oregon, Lions Club, which is still going strong. After the old gentleman passed on, a bag of these highly prized Loyal Order of Lions pins was discovered among his belongings. The bag contained 75 of the pins, which were still affixed to the original cardboard backing.

5 X actual size

Through the efforts of PDG Don Adams, the Baker City Lions Club has disposed of the pins by selling them to Lions throughout the U.S.A. As we predicted at the time we found out about the pins back in 2001, there is one of these pins that will be offered at an upcoming auction. On Friday evening in Winchester during the Virginia Pin Swap, one of 75 remaining Loyal Order of Lions pins will be included in their auction. It will be interesting to see just how much this rare pin will bring. Obviously, it will take more than one person to really want the pin if it is to bring the sum that we think it has the potential.

We are showing an enlarged image 5x the size of the pin, particularly for those who will be in Winchester. It is our understanding from the President of the Pin Traders Club of Virginia, Lion Phil Sharpe, that telephone bids will be honored for this pin. Lion Phil just happens to also be Chairman of the Friday Night Auction. You can find his phone number in the LITPC Directory.
